In a recent announcement, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a widespread recall of millions of plastic furniture tip-over prevention kits, expressing concerns that these kits may fail, potentially leading to furniture detachment from anchored walls.

The recall, prompted by safety concerns, is a joint effort between New Age and Alliance4Safety, a coalition comprising furniture manufacturers, retailers, and delivery services.
Manufactured in Vietnam by New Age Inds., the recalled tip kits consist of a plastic zip tie, two brackets, and two screws. The key issue revolves around the plastic zip tie included in the kits, which, according to the announcement, "can become brittle or break." This potential defect raises the risk of clothing storage units anchored to a wall detaching and tipping over. Furniture tip-overs pose serious hazards, including entrapment, severe injuries, and, in tragic cases, death—especially concerning for the safety of children.
According to the CPSC, 31 furniture companies are actively participating in the recall. Notable names among them include Ashley Furniture Industries, LLC, and Hooker Furnishings.
