LG reinterprets traditional piece of furniture using recycled plastic

LG Chem worked together with furniture designer Ha Ji-hoon to reinterpret the soban, a traditional Korean piece of furniture. The RE:SOBAN is made from recycled plastic. The prefix RE embraces the meanings of "Reborn, Recycle, Reinterpret, and Recreate". The rebirth of soban is itself a whole new reinterpretation of tradition, and recreation of everyday life and preference.

Soban is a traditional piece of furniture that comes from Korea. Unlike general tables, one soban is set for each person. Made from 100% recycled plastic, RE:SOBAN reflects the brands hope to bring recycled plastic into our everyday life. Using waste plastics, discarded by end-consumers, the RE:SOBAN is assembled without bolts, nuts or adhesives. This also enables easy recycling of the product after it's been used.

The RE:SOBAN campaign hopes to draw the public’s attention to recycled plastic. 'It took almost a whole year to finish this project. LG Chem thought about how to make people think about recycling, nature, environment and above all, the earth. So we chose soban which is a cultural heritage with the longest history. One small change in our daily lives will bring big changes in the future.'
